HAVE YOU EVER WALKED THROUGH A DARK TUNNEL?
Behold my five cents about life and my upside-down way of thinking
Behold my five cents about life and my upside-down way of thinking
Well that's not how actually people call me but that's how I wanted people to call me. Weird, right? My actual name is Ericka Mae Mangahas. "My first name was a combination of my parents' names. True Filipino culture. Haha!
Where did all start?
High School
I started loving books since High School. I even remember one of my English Teachers inviting us to read books in her Reading Corner and she'd asked us to write a book analysis after. English class memories, huh! What's yours?
Even then, I already knew that our thoughts are very powerful to conquer other people’s minds only by putting them into writing. That's how I became interested in writing random thoughts.
College
From then on, my love for books has become even deeper especially during college days. I got my Bachelor's degree major in English Language and Literature. During those days, reading books and writing literary criticisms were not really just some projects for me to pass. Instead, they became the things that I am really passionate about.
I even worked part-time as a library staff while studying. In there, I learned all the processes on how to run a library, which includes taking a good care of books. (Thank you Ma'am Tin!)
Employment
There's more....
My actual first job was to work in a library as a Librarian. Weird, right? I was supposed to be a teacher. Believe me, working alone could be the dullierst thing that a person could ever do. But since there were books all over around me, I was able to survive and enjoy the whole employment.
Thanks to my old friends who added color to my first year of work. Missing you all! (sad face)
WHAT'S MY GOAL?
Aside from being a passionate English Teacher, reading books is my next cup of tea.
Of course, my uttermost desire is to write and share random contents about books, most especially book reviews. For me, books are very powerful. They could even change the world. It's only because they came from the most powerful part of a human body, the brain.
Imagine loving a charming character in a book or admiring a powerful woman from a famous Journal, who could somehow make an influence in your life, how captivating that idea could be, right?
That's what I'm here, glad to share to you my book ideas and to somehow, touch your heart. Yiee!
Hey! Hope you’ll like the contents! Have a great day! Hugs and Kisses!
Picking movie or book lines that strike through our bones is one of our favorite things that we do while watching or reading books. Agree or not?
Some readers even have their own highlighter or sticky notes so they couldn't miss their favorite lines. And if you are watching a film, you would just suddenly smile after hearing something that will remind you of someone. "It's him!" or "that's so me!", you'll say. Or maybe you're going to tap someone beside you, "this so you!"
After that, you're going to pick your phone and will post it to your SMAs intended for someone (This is me! Haha!). Some readers use these lines to remind them of the book that they've read but for me, it's part of loving the book.
How do I pick my favorite quotes? It depends on how it hits my head. The hardest, the most memorable! Most of the time, I pick my favorite lines because I can totally relate to them.
So here are my favorite Lines from Gayle Forman's book, If I Stay:
"Sometimes you make choices in life and sometimes, choices make you"
This is actually my most favorite line from this book. It reminds me of the past decisions I made and how they made me today. Yes, I did regret some of them. But at some point, I realize the importance of making bad choices because they led me to where I am now.
2.
“And that's just it, isn't it? That's how we manage to survive the loss. Because love, it never dies, it never goes away, it never fades, so long as you hang on to it.”
This reminds me of someone saying, "we might not end up together but please know that my love for you will always stay with me". Is it actually true that our love for someone never dies? The love from the Supreme Being, yes! It never dies. But how about this romantic love that all of us are longing to get from someone? I want to leave this question to you, my dear readers. I have to be honest, I am still trying to test for myself if this is actually real.
But I believe this line is mostly accurate. Well, I think It depends on how genuine and what kind of love you actually have for someone. We love when are loved. We love until we can. But remember, there are always limits. Keep in mind that the wound from hanging on to a love that is totally crashing is more painful than the one you'll get from letting go.
Where did I get these thoughts? I'm overwhelmed! Haha!
3.
“But the you who you are tonight is the same you I was in love with yesterday, the same you I’ll be in love with tomorrow.”
If you're a woman hearing this from a man, I could imagine you grinning from ear to ear. This is the kind of love that most people are looking for. But remember that there's also a famous line saying, "love is is proven by time and actions and not only by beautiful words."
How about you, dear readers? What are your favorite lines from this book? I would be happier if you can send me your ideas through the comments section below.
I would also appreciate your book recommendations. Happy reading!
And maybe here they are:
1. Egos
Changing is hard because we don't want to do it. We don't want to to do it because other people told us to do it. We don't want to do it because it strikes the most sensitive part of our life (ego). We don't want to do it because we don't see anything wrong from us.
It's hard. Yes it is.
2. Initiative
The moment that we start having self-realization, looking ourselves in the mirror and thinking why other people keep telling us to do it, we might come to realize that maybe, there's really something that we need to change.
3. Our Mistakes
Change is hard because accepting our mistakes burns our egos. We think that it makes us less a person. But it's not about that. It should be about acceptance and understanding.
We are not perfect. If we accept our fault in the most possible way that we can, other people would understand us in the most possible way that they can, too.
4. Pride
It burns our life. It kills. It makes us the hardest person we could ever be. It's the biggest cause why we don't want to change.
But when we try to swallow it, we can start seeing ourselves enlightened by the truth.
5. Time
The same as moving on, changing ourselves takes time. It's not something that can happen in a glimpse of an eye. It can be uneasy but the most important thing is, we are trying.
We may not see the benefit as of the moment but at least, we don't let ourselves burn in the sea of life's deadly enemy (pride).
"It might be hard at first, messy in the middle but gorgeous at the end."
